This anime took otakus by storm in 2016. The action-packed fantasy anime features just the right amount of romantic subplots to keep viewers hooked and on the edge of their seats. Thrilling and sometimes heartbreaking, Re: ZERO pulls viewers in and leaves them wanting more. The show follows Natsuki Subaru, who finds himself transported to another world where he can turn back time whenever he dies. Fans raved over the complex love triangle that held them captivated throughout the show.

This magical anime is set in England, though, a bit different than the England you and I know. The plot follows Chise Hitori, a lonely young woman neglected and unwanted by her family. Numbed by the pain of her dreary and unfortunate life, she sells herself into slavery, searching for a place to belong and for someone to belong to.

Unexpectedly, she is purchased by a non-human man with a skull in place of ahead. She is to be his magical apprentice… and his bride!

You can’t go wrong with Sailor moon! Whether you choose the original, or Sailor Moon Crystal, you’ll be doing yourself a favor. But for the sake of the classics, I’ll be sticking with Sailor Moon in this list. This is a nostalgic and beloved anime to many, first airing in 1992. The plot follows young heroine Sabrina, who navigates life as a high school girl by day, and a crime fighter at night. With the help of her two cats, her fellow sailor scouts, and her mysterious love interest, Sabrina is challenged to save the earth and the universe. This series alone has inspired several spin-offs and movies. It is truly a romantic anime of legend.

She compensates for her looks by acting like a tomboy who isn’t interested in the opinion of others. Until one day she crosses paths with her first love, Tanaka.
